Google Mapping Tools Determine if you Need Solar Panels
Google from time has remained an advocate of green energy. From the time it financed the largest solar farm in Africa, to building one of America’s biggest campus solar systems, it has remained a front line in advocating for green energy.
Its latest project is the project sunroof tool. It is a new online tool to help homeowners find out whether they should go for solar. The new tool uses high-resolution aerial mapping to help calculate your roof's solar energy potential, without having to climb up any ladders.
The tool can also figures out how much sunlight touches your rooftop throughout the year, taking into consideration factors like roof orientation, shade from trees and nearby buildings, and local weather patterns and then combines all this information to estimate the amount you could save with solar panels.
Considering that this project is still in its initial phase, it can only be accessed for now by people staying in the area around San Francisco and Fresno in California and around Boston, Massachusetts.
Even for those who don’t live in areas covered by the tool they are advised to leave their email address and they will be contacted in the future when the sun roof tool is available in their area.
